The winner of the Blues Alliance competition/playoff is Stoney and the House Rockers. The competition/playoff was Sept. 28, 2008 at The Ashley in Stuart.

In the competition/playoff we were very fortunate to have some very talented musicians who are the highest professionals in our area, Stoney and the House Rockers and Category 5.

The judges were selected and are in the field of music or the music industry and have had no business or personal dealings with either band. Judging was per the regulations given to The Alliance by National.

The music from both bands was incredible and the outcome was very close.

The Blues Alliance wishes to thank each player for an outstanding job well done. The professionalism shown by each band is appreciated by all.

Thank you to our judges and to Leo Gale for his role as lead judge.

Good luck and God speed to Stoney and the House Rockers at the 2009 IBC!

Scholarship

The Blues Alliance of the Treasure Coast would like to show great appreciation to the following people for their generosity toward our, "R. Dale Trefelner Music Scholarship" Fund. This year, our own President, Bob "Cougar" Whitt has donated a Platinum Plus amount of $300.00 to be added to the fund for 2006/2007. Also, Bob has contributed another $300.00 to jump start the 2007/2008 account. Adding to this, our Corporate Sponsor, "Centaur Accounting', Ed Outcalt who is on our Board of Directors, has contributed $200.00 which is a Platinum amount. Janet C. Whitt-Thomas, sister of Bob "Cougar" Whitt in Ky., has joined as a member and has contributed $100.00, a Silver amount.

Our Scholarship Incentive Program was instituted by past member, Danny Lehrman in 2005 who made the first donation. Thanks Danny, and thanks to those who give to help students enhance their career.

Thank you to everyone involved in helping with our Alliance Christmas Party.
The event was a huge success.
Thank you to Corporate Sponsor, The Ashley, for great food, warm hospitality and atmosphere.
We had a tremendous sign up for the jam. Mike Riviera was gracious to head up the Core Band for us as Gerry Mullaney was out sick. Hope you're feeling better Gerry, we have a lot of work to do!
As you know, $5.00 of each ticket that was sold went into our scholarship fund.
The Blues Alliance of the Treasure Coast wishes everyone a Happy Holiday and a Happy New Year!

Thank you for supporting our fine organization, music and the blues!  PG

Blues Competition Follow-Up,

By Tim and The Nouveaux Honkies And Ben Prestage

KOTB

The Guitar Center King of the Blues competition.

I (Tim O'Donnell) was recently involved in a contest put on the Guitar Center. I heard about it on the radio and there were some great prizes involved. The first date of competition was in March. I drove down to the Guitar Center in West Palm and signed in. It was mostly local guys.

This contest used to be called guitarmageddon and hosted an array of very speedy guitar players. They changed it to the King of the Blues to try and get more people involved. The first night there were some good guitarist. I went and did my thing and advanced. A month later I went to the same store and won the area of West Palm Beach. Three weeks after that I competed in Hallandale and won that event which won me a Les Paul and a bunch of other stuff. This also put me on a plane to Nashville to the Regional finals.

Cougar drove me and Rebecca up and I competed but lost to a very good guitarist from Houston named Aaron Loesch. Amazingly the whole thing was cool and I met a bunch of cool people and from what I saw in the comp some real true blues guitarist were advancing. From somewhere in the range of about 5000 contestants I made it to the final 22 and couldn't believe it. The final is in Hollywood Ca. on June 16th. For any info on the comp you can go to gckingoftheblues.com. Both Rebecca and I have tracks listed on the site which can be voted on for airplay. Check it out and listen to some good undiscovered artists.

Tim
